Evan A. Weitz, a senior lab technician at Absolute Sound Laboratories in Minnesota, holds a PhD from the the University of Minnesota where he was awarded an Excellence in Graduate Studies Doctoral Dissertation Fellowship. A former research specialist, Evan A. Weitz also helps students prepare for the ACT as a tutor for Achieve Academics.

Since its founding nearly a decade ago, Achieve Academics has provided tutoring services to students that help improve their academic readiness and standardized test taking abilities. In addition to focusing on core subject areas such as reading, writing, and math, Achieve Academics helps students prepare physically and psychologically for big tests like the SAT and ACT. This includes preparation in four key areas:

1. Endurance – students prepare themselves for the rigors of standardized tests by simulating the entire experience, from getting up early to sitting through a four hour exam.

2. Anxiety – students with test taking anxiety enjoy a confidence boost that tutoring provides, and also have access to a professional psychologist.

3. Nutrition – students learn to make healthy food choices before and during a test to help them optimize their performance.

4. Personal presentation – students learn how to dress well on big test days, which boosts self-esteem and confidence.

Evan A. Weitz leverages his PhD and research experience as an ACT tutor at Achieve Academics and a senior lab technician at Absolute Sound Laboratories. An expert in neurodegenerative disorders, Evan A. Weitz also holds membership in the American Chemical Society, the Royal Society of Chemistry, and Mensa International.

A nonprofit organization, Mensa International consists of individuals with a high intelligence quotient (IQ). The organization, which holds no political or religious affiliations, exists only to foster camaraderie among its members through participation in social and cultural activities.

Individuals interested in membership with Mensa must score in the 98th percentile or higher on an IQ test. This can occur by sitting for the Mensa exam or another approved IQ test. However, online IQ test results are not accepted by the organization. Although there are no other Mensa eligibility requirements, many IQ tests have a minimum age requirement of 16.

Evan A. Weitz earned a PhD in chemistry from the University of Minnesota, where he contributed to several research groups. Today, Evan A. Weitz works as the senior lab technician at an audio-visual equipment supply company and as a tutor at Achieve Academics, both located in suburbs of the Twin Cities. At Achieve Academics, Mr. Weitz assists students who are preparing for college preparatory tests, such as the ACT.

Designed to assess students’ college readiness and measure their achievement, the ACT is universally accepted at all colleges and universities in the United States and is usually administered to juniors and seniors in high school. The test consists of four sections: math, English, reading, and science. Students also have the option of taking a writing section.

The math portion of the test contains 60 questions that cover pre-algebra, algebra, algebra 2, geometry, and trigonometry. This 60-minute segment requires students to work very quickly and decisively.

The English section contains 75 questions that must be completed in 45 minutes. The section includes questions on rhetorical skills and the usage and mechanics of grammar.

In the reading portion, students are required to read a selection of material and answer 40 comprehension questions in 35 minutes. In the science section, students must answer 40 questions that cover analyses, evaluation, interpretation, and problem-solving.

In the optional writing portion, students are given an issue and three differing views on the issue. They must decide on a position and present their opinion with solid reasoning skills within 40 minutes.

Strong ACT scores can help students obtain scholarships and admission into the college of their choice. Scores can be dramatically improved with a solid study plan and tutoring.
